Court decision on costs in O’Cuanachain case devastating

Statement by Liz McManus, TD

The decision by the High Court not to award costs to the parents of an autistic child, Cian and Yvonne Ó Cuanacháin has been called ‘devastating’ by Wicklow Deputy Liz McManus TD.

She said: “This couple have bravely fought for their child Sean and other children to have Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) schooling. Now they are being punished severely for their courage. It is a disgrace that children in Co Wicklow are being discriminated against. They are being deprived of a right that children is Dublin will have automatically.

“The State needs to show some compassion to this family who face an uncertain future financially following today’s ruling. I will be raising this in the Dáil when it resumes tomorrow.”

-Statement Ends-

I am sure that there is hope for an agreement to be reached but it is a disgrace that Cian and Yvonne have to contemplate losing their home to pay these outrageous legal fees.
